9th convocation of Lahore College for Women University Lahore; PM announces Rs. 50 million for Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Chair
Lahore: (Friday, January 20, 2012) Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who was the chief guest at the 9th convocation of Lahore College for Women University Lahore, has announced to give Rs 50 million for Benazir Bhutto
Shaheed Chair for Peace, Reconciliation and Development department established at the university.
Making grants announcements for different programmes of the University, the PM said, “To strengthen and facilitate the progress of this University I would like to extend financial support amounting to Rs. 50 million as
Endowment Fund for Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Chair. I also announce a grant of Rs. 10 million for the establishment of Support Center for Disabled Students with special needs. I would direct the Ministry of Information Technology to provide the ICT facilities
for the University.”
“On demand for the restoration and renovation of Ganga Ram building and establishment of Central Library within this building, the University should to prepare a PC-1 project and get approval from the competent forum for inclusion
of the project in the Annual Development Programme” Said Gilani.
Appreciating the University’s step to upgrade its departments and to start new disciplines at the campus, the PM said, “Starting new disciplines and establishing new departments at this university is a step towards new milestones.
Some of the areas of urgency are; energy, water, food, health care, knowledge and environment friendly technologies.”
Encouraging the students who passed-out today to play their role for the progress of the country and service of the people, Gilani said: “After graduating in various disciplines; it’s your turn to pay back the nation and its people.
It is your obligation to serve the public, contribute to nation building and uphold the law as responsible citizens. I am convinced that the future before you offers remarkable vistas of opportunities. We must pledge to make our country a better place.”
