How to Train your Dragon – One of the best movies of 2010

How to train your dragon is a 2010 3D computer animated flick which features voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill and T.J. Miller. The movie was released on March 26th, 2012 and grossed $494 million at the box office.

The $165 million budgeted movie is set in a mythical Viking world. It centres on a miserable young Viking, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock (voiced by Baruchel), who eyes to hunt dragon but finds himself befriend with a young dragon. The boy soon learns that his
people have misjudged the species and he must fight their resilience to gain acceptance.

The 98 minutes flick is based on the 2003’s English book of the same name which is written by Cressida Cowell. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score at the 83rdd Academy Awards, but fell to Toy Story 3 and
The Social Network, respectively. In addition to this, it won ten Annie Awards including Best Animated Feature. The movie also became DreamWorks animation fifth most successful film in the United States and Canada (behind the Shrek film series).

In initial development, the plot followed the original novel but was then altered. According to Baruchel, the original plot was "heavily loyal to the book", but was regarded as geared to a too-young demographic and too "sweet" and "whimsical". About halfway
through production, Disney’s Lilo and Stitch writer-directors, Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, took over as co-director.

John Powell returned to DreamWorks Animation to score How to Train Your Dragon, making it his sixth collaboration with the studio, following his previous score for Kung Fu Panda.

The film received exceptional reviews with review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes, report 98 percent of 169 critics gave positive reviews. The site’s general consensus declared, “Boasting dazzling animation, a script with surprising
dramatic depth, and thrilling 3-D sequences, How to Train Your Dragon soars.”

All in all, How to Train Your Dragon is a must watch movie for not only children but for their parents too.
