Militants are augmenting funds by means of kidnappings, says Ubaidullah Khan Khattak

Inspector General Frontier Corps, Major General Ubaidullah Khan Khattak has expressed that kidnapping incidents in Balochistan have amplified at a frightening rate and have become one of the major fund raising sources for militants.

He told media officials at the FC headquarters on Thursday that on one side, Balochistan has suffered a fall in bomb blasts and rocket attacks, which used to target gas pipelines and railway tracks, but on the other end kidnapping incidents in the region
have magnified.

“Militants, whether Taliban or Baloch, are using kidnappings to generate funds. They target foreigners with the intention to get ransom money in dollars,” Khattak added.

He also told that people from Waziristan came to Baluchistan and abducted BRSP workers. He further told that captors of ICRC’s British official are not present in Balochistan at the moment.

While responding to a question, Khattak clarified that there is no relation between Taliban of Baloch rebels. He proclaimed Quetta, Dera Bugti, Sibi and Turbat as unstable regions because of the increased attacks.

“The FC observed a rise in incidents in these four districts, while Kohlu is stable. Security forces managed to retain peace in Nasirabad and Panjgur, where concerns were raised after several attacks,” he added.

He requested Baloch youth to withdraw their weapons for the sake of peace. “I have complete sympathies with the Baloch youth who are being used as a tool. This country belongs to them as well and it is up to them what they choose. But I shall make one thing
clear – the security forces will not compromise over disrupting peace and the troops will not be weakened,” Khattak said.

While addressing a question regarding the alleged operation in Behlol, the IG utterly denied that no operation is in the process.

“A group of armed men belonging to the BLA once again tried to ambush FC men, and the FC then returned fire killing 10 to 12 militants,” he added.

In addition, he also claimed that foreign factors are trying to weaken Balochistan because of their own personal interest.
