Quarantine 2: The Terminal (2011) – Review
Friday, January 20th, 2012 5:33:05 by Musa AfridiThe second instalment in Hollywood’s take on the Spanish Rec
series sees the virus quarantined in an airline terminal, but does it build on the success of the original?
For the viewers who may not know this the original Quarantine movie was an adaptation of Juame Balaguero’s film, Rec, which was released in 2007. Quarantine was basically Hollywood’s take on it.
Yet while the sequels take off in two different directions, with Rec 2 seeing a police squad enter the quarantined building and the Quarantine 2 taking the story to another city or rather an airport terminal, there is enough in the story to keep the two
loosely tied together.
Elaborating on the story more than that would ruin the experience therefore it is highly recommended that the reader watch the films as they are definitely worth their time.
Coming back, or rather starting, with the movie in question, Quarantine 2: The Terminal, is more of the same if one compares it with the original. The only difference is the fact that it starts on an aeroplane instead of a fire truck and secondly the characters
are quarantined in an airline terminal instead of an apartment building.
Not to say that is a bad thing, as the new premise does develop the story in more ways than one, with one of the characters in the film playing a special role in that. Again, going into too much detail would ruin what the film has to offer in terms of storyline,
twists and the few scary moments that it does have.
In all honesty I was expecting much more from the film, instead there is very little it offers in terms of character development and the viewer will never truly related to any of the characters.
What it is good at however is recreating the atmosphere of the original even if it does not deliver at the end.
Verdict: this movie is recommended for those who do not mind an average horror movie that offers something different from the rest. However, the Spanish sequel, Rec2, comes more highly recommended than its Hollywood counterpart.
