Prime Minister Gilani rejects chances of dictatorship
Friday, January 20th, 2012 3:53:34 by Faisal FarooqEmbattled Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has asserted that there were not chances for dictatorship in the country, once again. Despite ruling the country for decades, he said dictators could not eliminate corruption.
“They still say that the nation is missing them and they want to come back. We want to tell them that there is no chance for them to come back.”
While addressing the convocation at a University in Lahore, the premier said the stable position rests with grace of Almighty Allah. Giving credit to himself, he stated that he was the first prime minister in the history of Pakistan who had served for the longest period.
He said that it was the job of the opposition to criticize the government and the people should let them fulfill their duty. In his view, the government’s job is to follow the mandate of the people.
He observed, “The opposition is doing its own work and the government would run as per the mandate accorded to them by the people.”
Gilani stated that every institution should accomplish its responsibilities within the constitutional parameters. “We have strengthened the state organs by restoring the Constitution and my appearance before the court reflects that we respect judiciary,” he added.
The Prime Minister categorically said that the PPP-led government respects the higher judiciary and endeavors to maintain balance among all the state organs. About the November 26 NATO airstrike on Pakistani check post, he asserted that the government had taken stern action against the attack to recod its protest.
He maintained saying, “We got the US forces vacate the Shamsi Base, boycotted the Bonn Conference and blocked NATO supplies through Pakistani routes. We did this because we are not answerable to any other country.”
About resumption of NATO supply, he stated that the joint sitting of the parliament would take the final decision in this regard.
He also claimed that over three thousand three hundred megawatt electricity has been added to the system that will help in reducing the electricity. The problem of circular debt will also be addressed, he affirmed.
