Islamabad: (Saturday, January 21, 2012) Interior minister Rehman Malik said today that Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) was not a security force, and thus, it could not provide security to Mansoor Ijaz. However, he said
that army could be called if called required.
Speaking to the media reporters at F-9 Park here in Islamabad, Malik said that a meeting between defence secretary, attorney general and interior secretary to mull over Ijaz’s security issue was underway, and it was expected to
decide on the security arrangements soon.
The Interior Minister said that the final decision regarding Mansoor’s security was to be taken be the attorney general.
Commenting over putting Ijaz’s name on Exit Control List (ECL), Malik said that if the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) will ask for it, the decision will have to be implemented.
Talking to the reporters at Fatimah Jinnah Park, he said, “I will put Ijaz’s name on ECL if PCNS deirects me to do so.”
Speaking on the issue of charging Ijaz with cases, Malik said that the government could launch and investigate against the American businessman for violating Article 6 of Constitution.
Earlier, chairman PCNS, senator Raza Rabbani said, “I will speak to the committee on the issue”. He was commenting on Mansoor Ijaz’s council in Supreme Court, Akram Shaikh’s view point who said that being not a Pakistani citizen,
Ijaz had a right to not to appear before the committee.
