Islamabad: (Saturday, January 21, 2012) Mansoor Ijaz’s arrival to Pakistan has once again become uncertain after the rumours that the government might not provide him reliable security.
Despite the announcement by Rehman Malik, the minister for interior, to provide Mansoor Ijaz complete security, Ijaz’s council, Akram Shaikh is not ready to believe him and he has written a letter to Army chief and Attorney General
of Pakistan (AGP) in which it was complained that the government was not providing complete security to his client.
The letter, written by Shaikh to the Chief of Army Staff, Ashfaq parvez Kayani, stated that his client was issued a visa and was ready to come to Pakistan; however, the government had given no assurance of his security. Thus, the
army chief should provide security at the behest of judicial commission.
Ijaz’s council also warned in the letter that the security measures he was promised on behalf of the government could also not be materialized. Forwarding the request to provide foolproof security to his client who was about to
visit Pakistan, he said if any harm reaches to his client, only government will be held responsible for that.
While in the letter written to Attorney General of Pakistan, Shaikh warned him of contempt case for failing to implement court’s orders with regard to providing sufficient security to his client. Expressing his wariness with Interior
minister’s security plan for his client, he also asked the AGP to keep Malik out of Ijaz’s security matters.
Shaikh also maintained in the letter that the people who posed threat to his client were trying to take his security matters into their hands which was unacceptable.
