Peshawar HC summons IG, Secretary Interior in Uzma Ayub case

Peshawar: (Saturday, January 21, 2012) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa High Court, while taking suo-moto notice of the Uzma Ayub’s rape case, has summoned Inspector General and Secretary Interior today.

Moreover, the committee, formed to investigate into the matter, and that was comprised of session judges Anees Bukhari, Principal of Khyber Medical College Zahir Hussain and DIG Idrees Khan, has completed its report.

While summoning the IG police and secretary interior, the KPK high court has also considered the report submitted by the committee probing into the matter.

On Thursday, Uzma Ayub, the victim of a gang rape whose brother was also killed for pursuing her sister’s case into court, gave birth to a baby girl.

It is also important to mention that Uzma’s newborn baby was taken away by the staff of a women rights based non-government organization in presence of police officials. The report submitted by the committee to the apex court has
also commented and questioned the CCPO over the custody of the child.

Commenting upon the incident in which Uzma’s daughter was taken away, the committee had reported that the action, without prior permission of the court, fell under contempt of court.

Earlier, the Peshawar High Court had also taken suo-moto notice on the brutal killing of Uzma’s brother who was shot dead on December 9, 2011 in the premises of court in Karak in the presence of Police officials.
