Pakistani American businessman Mansoor Ijaz has accused the government of preventing him from testifying over the Memogate scandal is Islamabad next week.
According to Mansoor, the Interior Minister Rehman Malik is currently planning a “massive cover-up” to keep him from appearing before the judicial commission.
He not only accused the Interior Minister of carrying out character assassination, but further added that Malik is getting his demand for putting Mansoor on the Exit Control List (ECL) rubber-stamped through Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS)
with the intended motivation of scaring him off.
Despite all the planning that is being done by the government and especially Malik, the Pakistani American businessman firmly stands on his decision to appear before the commission on the 24th of this month.
“I am coming. I am going to tell the truth. I am going to put the truth on the record forcefully, and I am going to make sure that the people of Pakistan, finally, are able to hold their government accountable for the actions that they take in their name,”
Mansoor said.
There is bound to be a lot of trouble and complications waiting for Mansoor after he sets his foot on the Pakistani soil due to his alleged role in the toppling of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto’s government in early 90’s.
The government is all set to get the Pakistani American businessman tried for article 6, a scenario which can prove to be quite troublesome for the latter.
Mansoor, who is a central character in the memo issue, is due to appear in front of the judicial commission that has been set up Supreme Court to investigate the scandal in order to reach a conclusive result.
While the Pakistani American business was due to appear before the commission on Monday, January 15, he was still in the process of acquiring the visa to travel to Pakistan. The court ordered Mansoor to be in Pakistan and record his testimony with the judiciary
commission by January 24. He is also expected to provide all the evidence that he has regarding the alleged memo that has pretty much brought the government and army, as well as the Inter Service Intelligence, at a stand-off.
