Michael Clarke eyeing 4-0 whitewash
Sunday, January 22nd, 2012 5:18:51 by Rana Nasir GhafoorAustralian captain, Michael Clarke has set sights on imposing 4-0 whitewash on India, saying that anything less than a clean sweep will be disappointing for the home side.
The Kangaroos have an unassailable 3-0 lead in hand, with the fourth and final clash set to be played at Adelaide next week.
A handsome victory in the fourth game is the only way to salvage some respect for the touring side.
However, Clarke is determined not to give India any chance to bounce back, insisting that anything less than a 4-0 drubbing cannot satisfy the Aussies.
"We are thinking one thing heading into the last Test against India – whitewash. Anything less than a 4-0 defeat of this powerful Indian team will be a disappointment to all of us," Clarke wrote in his column for ‘The Daily Telegraph’.
On Australia’s comprehensive series triumph, Clarke seemed quite delighted over his team’s thumping performance.
He called it a satisfying victory, but elucidated that the guys cannot allow any slip-up, as the task is not completed yet.
"There was great satisfaction with clinching the series in Perth. It was a fine achievement to beat a side ranked second in the world when the series started," he wrote.
The 30-year-old skipper added, "This is something all the guys can be proud of. But the job’s not done. Having dragged ourselves up after a disappointing loss to New Zealand in Hobart, little more than a month ago, the last thing we want to do is stumble
again. There has been too much of that in the recent past."
Meanwhile, the veteran batsman described that the final Test will be a tough outing for the home side, despite the present series score-line.
The Adelaide wicket is likely to be helpful for the batsman and thus, Clarke believes that the Men in Blue will look to make the best use of the conditions.
Talking about the final playing XI for the last game, the captain explained that even though all four pacers deserve to play, the conditions call for off-spinner, Nathan Lyon’s inclusion in the side.
