A 2011 performance captured 3D film, The Adventures of Tintin, based on the comics with a similar title and created by a Belgian artist Herge (Georges Remi).
The movie is based on three of the original comic books: The Crab with the Golden Claws (1941), The Secret of the Unicorn (1943) and Red Reckham’s Treasure (1944).
The story starts with Tintin, acted by Jamie Bell, who buys a model ship of the Unicorn in a market in Brussels. He is soon inquired by Barneby (Joe Starr) and Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine
(Daniel Craig) who both wanted to buy the same model as it holds the key to uncovering the secret of Unicorn. The adventurous boy is then abducted by Allan and onboard, Tintin meets Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis).
The British born star, Bell was quoted in BBC News as saying, “Spielberg is the only guy who could have made this movie. In the comic books he’s (Tintin) not a living, breathing person.
In the film, every strand of the quiff moves.”
The $135 million budgeted movie received good reviews from the critics as well. 74 percent of the 187 critics gave an average rating of 7 out of 10 in the survey by rotten tomatoes. The
site’s general consensus states, “Drawing deep from the classic Raiders of the Lost Ark playbook, Steven Spielberg has crafted another spirited, thrilling adventure in the form of Tintin.”
Peter Travers of the Rolling Stone gave a score of 3.5 out of four and declared, “The Adventures of Tintin comes at you in a whoosh, like a volcano full of creative ideas in full eruption…
It hits home for the kid in all of us who wants to bust out and run free.”
Top critic of the Chicago Reader had a negative opinion as he stated, “It adequately re-creates the comics’ Dickensian characterization, and every frame brims with clever details.
But once the action begins, Spielberg’s incessant, force-fed "fun" quickly gets exhausting.”
Directed by the famous Steven Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson, this adventurous flick was released on October 26th in the United Kingdom and on December 21st
in the United States. It bagged almost $350 million and dominated at the Box Office for several weeks.
Spielberg did an epic job in bringing the action and overall story to life, making it a must watch for everyone.
