No hope for Vision 2022, says former PFF official Mujahid Ullah Tareen
Monday, January 23rd, 2012 1:03:29 by Shahrukh SohailFormer PFF technical director Mujahid Ullah Tareen has lamented the Vision 2022 plan and said with the current set-up and policies being used by the Federation, they would not be able to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
The PFF’s much talked about Vision 2022 plan is thought to the goal which the Federation thinks it can achieve in almost a decade. Currently the National lies at a paltry 179th in the FIFA rankings and qualifying for the World-Cup after only a
decade is plan, which has attracted many critics.
One of them is a former PFF official himself and he said that there was no hope for qualifying for the World-Cup as the system in Pakistan was at fault and could not churn out quality players.
“The PFF policies are defective and I am hundred percent sure that Pakistan will not be able to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. I fear that by then it will not be able to enroll itself even in the top ten or eight countries of Asia. The PFF needs to devise
a strong and effective strategy in order to give football in the country a strong base.”
He also added the country’s highest tier of football was just a showcase event, which hardly improved the players and there were no real incentives for players to develop and hone their skills.
“The current league is a drama of walk-over, there are no incentives for the players, refereeing system is flawed, deals among the teams are routine exercise and on top of all this grounds remain in a poor condition. With these things better stuff cannot
be produced. For better future Pakistan should make its league result-oriented.”
Lastly he also added that the current coach of the National team wasn’t up to the task and would not be able to mould the Green-Shirts into a competitive unit.
“I watched him supervising the team in the SAFF Cup in India last year, but I did not see in him any such thing which can enable him to improve Pakistan team.”
With the PFF’s Vision 2022 plan looking like only a school boy’s dream, the future for Pakistani football looks dire in the current situation.
