Islamabad: (Monday, January 23, 2012) The Senate here today unanimously passed a resolution against former President General (retd.) Pervez Musharraf and has demanded his arrest upon arrival to Pakistan along with registration
of a case under article 6 of the constitution.
The resolution that was adopted by the house without dissent was presented by Senator Raza Rabbani.
Rabbani, the seasoned politician and a senior legislator said in the upper house that Musharraf abrogated the constitution twice, arrested the judges of superior judiciary and compromised national interests for petty personal gains.
He was of the view that the former military chief was also responsible of denting national economy and inflicting colossal loss to the national exchequer.
Prior to moving the motion, Raza Rabbani informed the chairman senate that a group of senators, including senator Afrasyab Khan Khattak, Professor Khursheed Ahmed, Abdul Rahim Mandokhel and Raja Zafarul Haq intend to put forward
a resolution against the former dictator.
Following this, the chairman Senate asked the members to initiate a debate on the issue and exhibit their wills if they wanted to become a part of the discussion or the resolution.
Senator Rabbani was of the view that the resolution was self explanatory, and thus, the members did not wish to discuss it further.
