Islamabad: (Monday, January 23, 2012) The Supreme Court of Pakistan here today decided to fix February 29 to hear the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader Asghar Khan about 16 year ago.
Filing the plea, Asghar Khan had demanded an investigation into Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) distributing money among the politicians to form political alliances.
Provided that former ISI chief Gen. (retd.) Durrani have submitted an affidavit confirming the accusation, it will be interesting to see which side the case will turn and how will it affect the already faltering political state
of the country.
The petition has requested the Supreme Court to point out and punish the politicians and political groups that have been receiving money from the secret agency. The petition forwarded by the former leader of tehreek-e-Istaqlaal
has been supported by various politicians.
Air Marshal (retd.) Asghar Khan, back in 1996, had written a letter to the then Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nasim Hasan Shah against former army chief Mirza Aslam Baig, former ISI chief Lt-General (retd) Asad Durrani and
Younis Habib of Habib and Mehran Banks regarding the disbursement of public money and its misuse for political gains.
