A stunning show put up by Sialkot’s Hunain Aamir in the final match up of 2012 Jubilee Insurance Pakistan Junior Under-21 Snooker Championship brought him on top of the potters and he became the youngest champion ever after beating Muhammad Majid of Faisalabad by the score line of 5-2. The 16-year-old dominated the game from the beginning and did not let his opponent score any major breaks during his final match run.
Majid cruised into the first scrappy frame victory by the score line of 27-70 and nudged his opponent one frame down to clinch an early lead of 0-1 with the help of some impressive small breaks. Majid’s early frame victory did put Aamir under immense pressure but the youngster did not lose his focus and bounced back into the game in second frame. He grabbed the second frame win by the score line of 78-30 firing a couple of smashing knocks and pulled levels at 1-1.
After that, it was all Aamir show at the baize as the youngster fired up and played outstandingly. He pocketed some marvellous breaks during the match and claimed three consecutive frame wins by the score line of 56-55, 83-44 and 78-28 to move within three frames lead over Majid at 4-1.
Majid, on the other hand, was completely outplayed by the young cueist and underwent immense pressure. He could only win one frame to take the scores at 4-2. The seventh frame of the match proved to be the last one as Aamir clicked the black ball to win the match and become the youngest champion of 2012 Pakistan Junior Under-21 Snooker Championship.
Speaking to the local media after his victory, Aamir said, “I want to be like England’s Ronnie O’ Sullivan and represent Pakistan in the world championship. I’ve grown up watching players at my father’s club and want to become a professional cueist.”
Aamir’s first title victory means a lot to him and he aims to be like his motivator, the former three-time World Snooker Champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan of England. On his splendid win, Aamir awarded a prize money of Rs.40,000 along with a beautiful trophy by the zonal head of Jubilee Insurance, Mahboob Pervez, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Majid collected a cash prize of Rs.20,000 along with the runner-up trophy. Abash Refigure of KP and Shahabad Khan of Sindh were awarded Rs.10,000 each for making into the semi-finals.
