England’s fast bowler Chris Tremlett might not be able to take part in the second Test of the three match series against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, starting from Wednesday, January 25, 2012.
The tall fast bowler suffered a back problem last year and was out of action for quite some time. However, he returned to the side against Pakistan and played the opening Test in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The comeback did not prove to be an ideal one for Tremlett, as he failed to make an impression and the tourists lost the match by 10 wickets.
Adding insult to injury, the 30-year-old started feeling similar strain that he had last year and is now doubtful for the Abu Dhabi Test.
This news was confirmed by England’s Test captain Andrew Strauss, who added, "He had a sore back and side yesterday. He’s going to have to bowl today before we know whether he’s fit or not. There is just some general stiffness and soreness there."
Despite this injury recurrence to Tremlett, the Poms are confident of bouncing back in the series by winning in Dubai.
According to opener Alastair Cook, "It’s always nice when you turn up to a ground where history suggests you can score runs, but that doesn’t really count for anything. We’ve got to go out and put our poor performance behind us. We held
our hands up as a batting unit. The reason we didn’t get close in that last match was the top six. The beauty about another game coming so quickly is we can put that right. I know we’ve got the characters and the record to do that."
Batting was the main problem for the English side, as they failed to cope up with the quality spin bowling from Saeed Ajmal, who was the highest wicket-taker in Tests last year.
Ajmal continued his impressive show in 2012 and picked up 10 wickets in his first game of the year. The best thing about his bowling was that he took seven out of those 10 wickets on day one of the match, when the pitch had absolutely no
assistance for the bowlers.
