England’s number three batsman, Jonathan Trott has said that England have learnt a lesson from their humiliating first Test defeat in Dubai, and will bounce back in the second game against Pakistan.
Due to an embarrassing 10-wicket loss, the Englishmen are currently 1-0 down in the three-match Test series. The next game is set to be played at Abu Dhabi, getting underway on Wednesday.
The high profile English batting line-up failed to spark in the opening game, as no willow-wielder expect Matt Prior could score a half-century.
The entire batting department was unable to cope with Saeed Ajmal’s spin variations, and Trott (49) was England’s highest run-getter in the second innings.
The Abu Dhabi wicket is also likely to favour the hosts, but Trott is hopeful of a strong comeback by the Poms.
"Being a part of this England team for two or three years, we’ve had a few losses and we’ve managed to bounce back in the following game. We hope we can do that again – and being close-knit and playing well together and knowing each other’s games so well,
it’s just a matter of time for us to get back to winning ways," said Trott ahead of the second encounter.
The one-down batsman also conceded that the batsmen’s failure to post a decent score on the board put immense pressure on the bowlers in the opening game.
However, he was adamant that they guys have been working extremely hard to rectify their mistakes and will present a fabulous show in the next game.
"Whenever you go into the first Test and don’t score big in the first innings, you’re going to put your bowlers and yourself under pressure. But that happened, and we’re looking to rectify it in the second game. It was really good and really important (in
practice) to move on from the last match. The guys have done that, and really thrown themselves into nets," added the 30-year-old batsman who was score over 2000 runs in 24 Test so far in his international career.
England are currently leading the ICC Test rankings, but a defeat in the ongoing series will definitely put their numero uno status in danger.
