Regardless of that the American embassy in Pakistan has declined to provide Mansoor Ijaz any security; people in Pakistan are still making comments at the outrageous demand of an ordinary US-based businessman, Mansoor Ijaz.
It is vital to mention here that Ijaz does not hold an adequate track record about Pakistan. Any person, who has nerve of sincerity that he imagines to posses, the US-businessman should have expressed pleasures with type of protocol Pakistan is offering to him.
Pakistan is being defamed at the international level despite the matter has highly political importance.
It will raise many worrying queries if Mansoor Ijaz’s awkward plea for the security is being accepted. Critics will also ask why an army battalion had not been deployed with Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the two-time former premier of the country.
The judicial commission, tasked to probe the infamous memogate scandal, should ponder over the issue, considering that numerous political leaders are on the hit list of terrorists.
It has not been asked the army to provide security to politicians whose lives are at risk. Another faction that can ask for military security is judges and prosecutors who are working on cases about militancy.
At a time when Pakistan is fighting many wars on different fronts, the country does not have extra battalions to look after each and every witness. The court will find hard to adjudicate the cases by so many genuine seekers in need of special security arrangements if once the precedent is set.
On the other day, Mansoor Ijaz has refused to come to Pakistan, claiming he had not been assured proper security arrangements and he might be detained in the country.
At the same time, the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) has asked Mansoor Ijaz, the central character of the memogate scandal, to appear before the panel on January 26. Obviously the committee also has a mandate to probe the matter and it can summon anyone involved in the case.
Why Mansoor Ijaz is expressing hesitations when he is ready to appear before the judicial commission?
All stakeholders and authorities should consider the ground realities before commenting on any issue. All system will be out of order if one wrong precedent is set in any particular case.
