At long last, the mystery of six missing students, three boys and three girls, came to an end when police recovered them from a hotel in Peshawar, on Monday night.
City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Azhar Hameed Khokhar stated, “All the missing students have been recovered by the police and they are on way to Rawalpindi from Peshawar.”
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Peshawar, Tahir Ayub confirmed that the runaway teens including three girls were nabbed from a hotel, located in Hashtnagri area.
He also confirmed that the children have been handed over to the Rawalpindi police. He, however, did not explain the mystery behind the entire drama. “They were not kidnapped and had in fact come to Peshawar of their own accord,” the SSP added.
An official of the police team that brought back the runway students informed the media said, “They will be investigated and medically examined before handing them over to their families.”
It is vital to mention here that the teens including a brother and sister would be taken into custody and produced before a magistrate for further proceedings.
Iqra Naeem and Hamza Ali students of ninth class, while Wajeeha Asghar, Areeba Akram, Abu Bakar, and Waleed Akram of tenth grade students, studying at APSIS School System in Chaklala Scheme-III, missed under mysterious circumstances on January 19, 2012.
Although parents had called for the police in searching their missing kids, it was the hotel administration in Peshawar who got suspicious of the six teens after they checked in there on Monday. After identifying the teens, the hotel management informed the local police station about the suspicious guests.
According to the media reports, the teens were first believed to be residing in Murree, but they switched off their cell-phones and left them at a hotel in the hill station. The police tracing the caller through the mobile SIM and learnt that the call was made on Monday morning from Peshawar.
Some media reports believe that the runaway teens wanted to get a large sum of money from their parents by staging a kidnapping drama.
