Ian Healy feels Brad Haddin needs to improve

Former Australia wicket-keeper, Ian Healy believes Brad Haddin has still a lot to offer, but the gloveman needs to improve his performance.

The Kangaroos are currently 3-0 up in the ongoing Test series against India. Ahead of the clash, Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey and Haddin were under immense pressure following their recent poor performances.

Hussey and Ponting have silenced their critics, but a big innings is still to come from Haddin. The cricket pundits have been questioning Haddin’s place in the crew; however, Healy has entirely different take on this.

When asked that whether Haddin’s time is up, he said, “No… I wouldn’t say his time is up, but he’s got to improve. Haddin’s the best ’keeper-batsman we have in Australia, at the moment, but he’s not playing well… He’s certainly under scrutiny and only
he’ll know if his time is up or if he can recover from the slump in form.”

The former cricketer insisted that Haddin is still good enough to recover, and do well for Australia for another couple of years.

A few days ago, Haddin himself admitted that he has not been feeling good mentally and physically. His comments prompted critics to open fire at him. The analysts argued that the stumper should quit the position, and give somebody else a chance to serve
the country.

Healy described that such comments depicted the amount of pressure on Haddin, and hoped that the wicket-keeper batsman will come out of his lean patch quickly.

“Those comments were more in relation to the KFC Big Bash… However, it’s a sign of the pressure telling on him. You don’t opt out so easily. Instead, you freshen up and take a fresh guard. I hope Haddin’s worked on the basics in the past week,” added the
cricketer-turned-commentator who holds the record of most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in the longest version of the sport.

When asked about his suggestion for Haddin, Healy explained that the wicket-keeper batsman needs to focus just on the basics to come back to business.

After the ongoing Test series against Team Blue, the Aussies are scheduled to play a home triangular series. Haddin’s place will be in real danger, if he continues his poor form.
