Lacuna Coil’s Dark Adrenaline – Album review
Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 1:15:15 by Haris AnsariLacuna Coil, an Italian gothic metal band, released their sixth studio album ‘Dark Adrenaline’ on January 23. The album is produced by Don Gilmore, who is renowned for his commercial work with Linkin Park and Avril Lavigne. ‘Dark Adrenaline’ succeeds the
band’s highly commercially successful album Shallow Life that was released in 2009.
The Italian band’s new album is appreciated highly by the band’s fans with some of them claiming the album to be their best. The first two tracks of the disc ‘Trip the Darkness’ and Against You’ are the two songs that every Lacuna fan was hoping to hear.
Cristina Scabbia, lead vocalist and lyricist, did tremendously well with her vocals on both tracks, and it feels like that her voice is getting richer and stronger with time. Meanwhile, Marco Biazzi and Cristiano Migliore’s guitar riffs provide the orthodox
chord progression that has always been the case with the band’s music.
Third track on the disc is ‘Kill the light’, which is undoubtedly a good song and would be appreciated by everyone. ‘Give me something more’ is the fourth track, which perfectly builds the momentum of the band’s progressive influences. Andrea Ferro’s vocals
in the intro make Scabbia vocals afterwards more than attractive.
‘Upsidedown’ follows ‘Give me something more’, and it will certainly make everyone head-bang. Powerful riffs give it the perfect intro while Ferro’s strong vocals coupled with Scabbia’s alluring voice make it even better and Biazzi and Migliore’s impressive
but short solo completely gratify all the listeners.
Sixth track of the disc is ‘End of Time’, which can certainly be regarded as one of the band’s best track ever and will surely be a hit while ‘The Army Inside’ is the song that emphasizes the impressive work of Scabbia and Ferro as dual vocalist.
The whole album cannot be described in limited words. Hence, we can say that the disc, as a whole, can be regarded perfect apart from the cover version of R.E.M’s ‘Losing my Religion’.
It would be a disappointment if the album does not come up to the expectations as the band has undoubtedly come close reaching its true potential.
