Alienware X51: A slim-tower gaming PC with a smaller footprint – Part 1
Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 1:18:35 by Usman KhalidGaming PCs are the in-fashion commodity these days although they still have to beat a tough competition from consoles like the PlayStation and Xbox. However, the PC of the genre bring more to the table than a gaming device.
Alienware, the company solely dedicated to the development and manufacturing of gaming computers, has always brought a new device to the market with attractive UFO-like casings and state-of-the-art specifications under it. The new X51 gaming PC from the company keeps the pedigree intact.
Although the new machine does not bear the tradition Alien-like structure on the outside because of its diminutive structure, it does have circuitry that is at par with mainstream mid-tower PCs.
The slim body of the gaming machine, however, has shortfalls drawn with it. For a smaller footprint, the user will have to compromise on performance on some high-tech, graphic-intensive applications like Adobe Photoshop and upgrade of the specs.
For the use of games currently trending in the market, X51 is one of the best choice as it includes a full-sized 1 GB 3D graphic card. Instead of stuffing inside a half-hearted, half-sized graphic card, Alienware has successfully been able to incorporate a full-fledge NVIDIA Express Card, the best option in graphics rendering in the market.
The computer comes with Intel’s second generation core i-series processor, Core i5 which is clocked at 3 GHz. But the users will have a hard time in overclocking the chip as it lacks the K suffix in the name. However, for a couple of hundred dollars shelled out, the processor can be upgraded to Core i7, which is by far the high specification in mid-tower and slim-tower PCs.
However, that need is fairly justified by massive 8 GBs of RAM nestled on the mother board. But there are only two slots for memory on the chipset, therefore, a wholesome of 4 GBs will have to be compromised if an upgrade is needed on the RAM.
