Alienware X51: A slim-tower gaming PC with a smaller footprint – Part 2
Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 1:18:16 by Usman KhalidAs a standard these days, the X51 has a SATA storage device with capacity to store data up to one terabytes. The hard drive runs at 7200 rounds per minute, which is fast for a device that is enclosed in a slim-tower casing.
In addition, the CPU includes dual-layer DVD burner, USB 3.0 ports, 7.1 channel audio and a VGA outlet for mesmerising video quality. Windows 7 Home Premium is the icing on an already attractive device.
Though the device is smaller in size as compared to its peers in the market, it has the hints of inspiration from Xbox 360, one of the most successful gaming consoles ever.
However, the X51 does have some short comings when compared to any contemporary gaming consoles in the market. The users still need to fiddle with the graphic settings and audio outputs. Although the CPU works wonders at 1920×1080 pixels, which is full HDTV resolution, it has stutter when jumped to 2560×1440 pixels.
The games still need to be installed as opposed to direct play on PS3 or Xbox 360. However, that little detail can be neglected as X51 is more than just a gaming device.
In comparison to other slim- and mid-tower CPU in the market, the Alienware shows mediocre performance.
It takes longer than its peers in rendering images on Adobe Photoshop and iTunes encoding. The X51 shows the slowest performance in multimedia multitasking but the lag is negligible at best. In rendering the video on different applications, Alienware slim computer comes exactly in the middle of the roster.
For price under a thousand dollars, X51 is surely taken a big stride in bringing a new form to gaming PCs within budget.
