The case of Khurram Rasool has recently been sent to a trail court from the banking court on order of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. The reason given by the Chief Justice is that the nature of the case was fraud which is way it
should not be tried in the banking courts of the country.
Rasool is the former media coordinator of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani and has been accused of defaulting on a bank loan. The case against Rasool has been filed since the year 2009 as a result of which Rasool has given himself up to
the Federal Investigation Agency officials on Thursday night. However, the reason given by Rasool for surrendering himself up was that his family was under threat and he was personally receiving death threats through SMS.
The allegations that have been made against Rasool hold him responsible for minting as much as Rs 71 million back in 2009. The accused had been found guilty on the January 26th of this year and the Rawalpindi Accountability Court had sent him
to prison for a period of three years as punishment of his crime.
During the hearing that was conducted today, the DG FIA Inam Ghani claimed in front of the court that the FIA had made the arrest of Rasool from Sihala Bridge in the capital of Pakistan. However, the this statement was not to the liking of Justice Khilji
who expressed himself on the matter by making the following statement while referring to the claim of DG FIA that FIA had made the arrest: “Why are they (FIA) claiming the credit for something they have not done?”
In order to present his positive side to the court, Rasool made the claim that he had already made the return of 80 percent of the money that had been borrowed from the bank. However, the amount that remains to be paid is equal to 110 million rupees. Rasool
made the commitment that he is willing to pay off his debt as soon as possible and that the transaction was not a fraud but a business deal.
