Microsoft’s Xbox 720 to follow hot on the heels of the Wii U
Friday, January 27th, 2012 3:46:58 by Musa AfridiThe Xbox 720 could hit stores in early 2013 soon after the Wii U’s release during this year’s Holiday Season.
When it comes to technology one factor that companies always concern themselves with is being first to the market, and that holds true for the Interactive Entertainment Industry as well.
It was teased earlier that Nintendo were ahead in the race to see which company could get their next generation console out and selling the earliest, with the Japanese company claiming that the Nintendo Wii U would hit shelves before the Christmas period.
However, Microsoft do seem to want to be left behind as reports have emerged that the American company are now looking to launch their next generation console, the Xbox 720, in fall 2013.
The rumour mill has been in full swing when it comes to the 720, with everything related to the console having a story behind it apparently. A few months ago news broke that there was a change at the top concerning the Xbox with the company bringing in a
new man, or rather woman, to take the helm and oversee the development of the project.
News then broke that there would be two different 720’s on offer come the console’s release; one would be aimed at the casual gamer market and would have more Kinect powered features, while the second console would be aimed at the core market of hardcore
gamers.
One of the consoles at least has will apparently use a Radeon 6000 series graphics card which would give the 720 six times the processing power of the 360 and would perform around 20 percent better than Nintendo’s Wii U.
Apart from that a recent discovery saw Microsoft file a patent for a device that could record digital video and the description seemed to suggest that the Xbox 720 could also be used as a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) as well.
At this point in time all everyone has to go on are rumours, reports and speculation with Microsoft responding to every enquiry over their next generation console with the same statement, “We do not comment on rumours and speculation”.
