PFF looking to schedule friendly foreign tie on FIFA match day
Friday, January 27th, 2012 3:57:14 by Shahrukh SohailThe Pakistan Football Federation is reportedly looking to entice another foreign team to play the Green-Shirts at home on the 29th of February.
Under Zavisa Milosavljevic’s management skills, Pakistan were able to put up a decent performance in the SAFF Cup in December. The Serbian tactician masterminded three draws but the results are seen as a major improvement from Tariq Lutfi’s tenure.
Fans are craving International exposure and for once, the PFF is looking to comply and is currently looking to schedule a friendly tie on FIFA match dates.
According to a Federation official, they have contacted several Asian nations including Afghanistan but are yet to receive their reply.
“We have already made correspondence with a few central Asian countries and Afghanistan, but so far we have not received any response.”
He also said that concerns were being raise over Pakistan’s ability to host the match safely and that one person had even suggested that the game be played in Dubai, to curb the possible security issues.
“An official of one of the central Asian countries has proposed that Pakistan should play with them on neutral venue in Dubai but we want to play with them in Pakistan as the security environment has improved.”
In his defence, he revealed that the PFF had reminded their fellow Federations that the country has held several sporting events this year and it is a mark the improving security situation.
“Foreign teams should observe that recently Pak-China hockey series and an international boxing tournament were organised in Pakistan, which showed that the security environment in Pakistan has improved.”
Lastly, he said that they were trying to play Afghanistan as they had proved their credentials in the SAFF Cup and because Zavisa has also insisted that they play another competative country on the 29th.
“Afghanistan is also a good side and we are trying again to make a contact with them and to know whether they will be available for the friendly game against Pakistan.”
The FIFA Match date will enable Pakistan to utilize the foreign players and give ample time to the coach for implementing his training methods, so it is imperative that the opposition be full of quality and a challenge to the Green-Kickers’ might.
