The biographical British film was released on December in America and on January in United Kingdom and the rest of the world. It is distributed by the 20^th Century Fox, The Weinstein Company and Pathe Internationl. Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent,
Anthony Head and Richard E Grant are starring in this flick.

The film centres on Margaret Thatcher (played by Streep) who was the longest serving Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She was the first and only female Prime Minister of the UK and was one of the famous and influential women of the 20^th Century.

The $13 million budgeted movie grossed a total of $32.5 million at the Box Office.

Filming began in the UK on December 31^st, 2010 and in preparation for her role, Streep sat through a session at the House of Commons in January 2011 to observe British MP’s in action. Extensive filming took place at the neogothic Manchester Town
Hall.

Streep said about her character: "The prospect of exploring the swathe cut through history by this remarkable woman is a daunting and exciting challenge. I am trying to approach the role with as much zeal, fervour and attention to detail as the real Lady
Thatcher possesses – I can only hope my stamina will begin to approach her own."

The film received mixed reviews but Streep’s performance was widely acclaimed. She triumph the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Drama, her eighth award and 26^th nomination. She has also been nominated for both the BAFTA Award
for best Actress in a Leading Role and the Academy Award for Best Actress. The film itself is nominated for the Academy Award for Best Makeup.

IMDB gave it a rating of 6.2 out of 10 based from its 4,258 users while Metacritic gave it a score of 54 out of 100, based on reviews from 41 critics.

Review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes, gave it a rotten rating of 55 percent, based on reviews from 182 critics. The site’s general consensus state, “Meryl Streep’s performance as The Iron Lady is reliably perfect, but it’s mired in bland, self-important storytelling.”
