Australia making big strides towards the top, feels Michael Clarke
Saturday, January 28th, 2012 1:41:28 by Rana Nasir GhafoorAustralian skipper, Michael Clarke is delighted with his team’s superb 4-0 victory against India, and claimed that the whitewash triumph is a step forward to the top of the rankings.
The Kangaroos dominated the international cricket for many years, before their misery started a couple of years ago. The Aussies suffered two back-to-back Ashes defeats followed by a lacklustre performance in the ICC World Cup 2011.
However, the things seem to have improved for the former World Champions, as Clarke and men have just imposed a clean-sweep 4-0 victory on a strong Team India.
Since taking over as captain, Clarke has been producing decent results in both Test and ODI formats of the sports.
Australia are currently fourth on the ICC Test rankings and Clarke has set sights on the numero uno status.
"We’ve got a hell of a lot of work to do to get back to where I see this team going and would love to see this team going. But we’ve played some fantastic cricket. We’ve shown a lot of people around the world that we’re on the way up, which is a really positive
sign. I think there’s still a lot of improvement needed in all of our games, individually and as a team, but we’re getting there. We’re getting better every day and that’s the most pleasing thing," said Clarke.
His personal batting performance was pretty impressive in the series, as he clinched ‘Player of the Series’ award following his brilliant batting all the way through.
When asked about India’s such a pathetic batting show throughout the competition, the 30-year-old preferred to admire his bowlers. He lavished special praise on the performance his bowlers, who managed to pick up 20 wickets in all four matches of the series.
"I don’t want to take any credit away from our bowlers. I think they should be very proud of what they’ve achieved. To be able to get so many great players out on a couple of wickets that were quite hard for batting and then a couple of wickets that were
very good for batting, they deserve a lot of credit for that," added the New South Wales veteran batsman.
