No anti-dengue drive while the summer on cards
Saturday, January 28th, 2012 6:11:31 by Sharjeel AhmadIt seems that Punjab government has not learnt any lesson —perhaps they do not want to learn—from the murderous attack of dengue virus during the last summer and resultant causalities of the poor Lahorites who could not afford air-conditioned rooms and
UPSs.
The next summer is creeping in along with severer dengue but there seems to be no preventive measure and defensive drive in the provincial metropolis. As per doctors’ predictions, the attack will be more threatening this time and, if it is not contained,
a large number of deaths are likely. This is awful to even think but the Khadim-e-Ala (the chief servant of the public) is in slumber or he might have forwarded the directions but his subordinates are not willing to follow. Whatever the reason, it is too
an inhuman and insensitive attitude.
The municipal authorities must have started the fumigation in the midst of the winter so that the larva of dengue could be prevented from whelping. There must have been proper cleanliness of all the fresh water resorts situated inside or in the vicinity
of the city. But there is no move indeed.
Now, as the month of February will set in, the mosquito are to come back to take us to the doors of death. What will happen then? Fumigation with fake material will be started after a delay of at least a month and his highness Chief Minister will come before
the media and utter that he is working hard to ensure public health. Too silly in fact!
The quagmire of Summer 2011 will repeat again, but with greater intensity this time. To the extreme of carelessness, no additional treatment facilities have been set up in any of the city’s public hospitals during the intervening time to cope with the emergency
challenges.
This is not fair at all. This is not the character of a democratic government. This is not the way to serve the public. This is not humanity indeed. Let us do by ourselves what we can to avert the dengue-led demise and leave the rest on Allah Almighty.
