Peshawar to feature in video game, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
Saturday, January 28th, 2012 4:11:58 by Musa AfridiPakistan will mark yet another appearance in the world of video games in Ubisoft’s upcoming triple-A title, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.
Video Games have become as much a part of modern culture as films and music. For those who doubt that statement here are just a few quick facts to bring them up to date.
A survey showed that 51% of the United Kingdom’s population was ‘involved’ in video gaming one way or the other and that the fastest selling entertainment product of all time is not a movie or an album but rather a video game by the name of Call of Duty:
Modern Warfare 3.
Moving on and it is not the first time that Pakistan has made an appearance in a video game. In fact, it was featured as a multiplayer map in, the former record holder for best selling game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The map was titled, ‘Karachi’ and although it looked more like Iraq than anything else it was there. A Pakistani flag also made an appearance in another triple-A title, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves hanging on a pole near the top of a hotel building.
Now it seems that the gaming world will get its third dose of the country as the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar, is a map for players to plough through in the upcoming futuristic third-person shooter from Ubisoft, Ghost Recon: Future Solider.
The game itself is aiming to be one of the biggest releases of the year yet they may be treading on thin ice if the context of the level is similar to what DICE did with Battlefield 3.
The studio did not seem too concerned with the actions of the Iranian government after Battlefield 3 was banned in the country due to its depiction of Iran being invaded by the US Army.
A video showing gameplay of the stage hit YouTube recently and though one cannot tell exactly what the developers have in mind or the context, one can expect a large number of gamers in this country keeping a close eye on what Future Solider will be doing
in the streets of Peshawar.
