David Dhawan impressed by Katina Kaif’s ‘Chikni Chameli’

The Indian film director, David Dhawan, is pretty impressed with Katrina Kaif’s item song ‘Chikni Chameli’, as he believes Katrina has surpassed all of her previous performances in this song.

David Dhawan, who studied at the Film and Television Institute of India, has previously worked with Katrina Kaif in ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?’ but he is mainly happy because he credits himself for launching Katrina Kaif’s career in the Bollywood industry. Moreover, Dhawan reckons he was the one who introduced the trend of item songs in the Industry.

“I started the trend of raunchy item songs with Sarkaiyee lo khatiya jaada lage in Raja Babu. And now look where it has gone,” said Dhawan. “When Katrina did her first major film, it was with me – Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?. Look where she is now! I am very proud of her and of Karan Johar for getting her to do Chikni Chameli,” he added.

Katrina Kaif’s sizzling performance in ‘Chikni Chameli’, which has been featured in Karan Johar’s ‘Agneepath’, won a lot of praises and appreciation from the audiences. However, the dance steps were never easy for Katrina since the actress claimed she never did this type of dance before. Yet her performance left everyone spellbound and this was all a result of her sheer hard work.

Dhawan also thinks the dance step in ‘Chikni Chameli’ could have never been easy for anyone.

“It’s a very special dance number,” promises Dhawan.

In the end Dhawan, who is currently busy in Goa for his son’s wedding, admitted that the music trends in the industry have changed a lot now.

“Someone like me, who did it so long ago now has to move beyond the rustic folk type of item. I feel the trend has reached a bend. The curves have to be used differently,” he said from Goa.

‘Agneepath’, which was released on January 26, 2012, has set new records at the Indian box office and one of the main reasons behind the stupendous success of the movie was Katrina’s item song ‘Chikni Chameli’ since it created much hype among the audiences and they were forced to flock to the cinemas.
