Islamabad: (Monday, January 30, 2012) The Supreme Court of Pakistan today directed the intelligence agencies to produce seven people in their custody on February 9, before it.
The petition to probe into the matter was filed by a woman whose three sons were picked by the secret agencies with the allegations to have a hand in the Oct 2009 attacks on the army GHQ and the ISI’s Hamza camp in Rawalpindi.
A three bench court, comprised of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez will hear the petition.
The woman, approaching the court, alleged that her three sons along with eight other people were in illegal confinement of the secret agencies since May 29, 2010. While during the investigation, she said, one of her sons had died
under mysterious circumstances.
The lawyer of Judge Advocate General (JAG) Branch, Raja Arshad and chiefs of the two services – ISI and MI maintained before the bench that the four detainees died due to illness.
Arshad also said that although he was not aware of the nature of the illness the deceased suffered from, however, his clients were ready to conduct a postmortem of the bodies.
While giving his remarks, chief justice also quoted Prime Minister saying that no one was above the law and the constitution. He also observed that the constitution ensured complete protection for the people and guaranteed their
independence. The hearing will now resume on February 9.
