Lahore: (Monday, January 30, 2012) Chief of the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has withdrawn disqualification plea against Minister for Defence Ahmad Mukhtar filed in the Lahore High Court
over three years ago.
Shujaat, who lost National Assembly elections against the prominent leader of Pakistan Peoples’ Party from NA 105, Gujraat, had filed the case against Mukhtar in 2008.
Requesting the honourable court to declare Ahmad Mukhtar disqualified, Ch Shujaat had alleged him of rigging the polls. He maintained that on the day of polling, Mukhtar, along with his compatriot and polling staff in the constituency
had changed the results through unfair means.
The Q-league chief had further said that PPP’s workers forcefully barred his voters from casting their votes at all the polling booths. He also alleged the returning officers for taking sides with the PPP leader and for considering
a number of rejected votes in favour of Ahmad Mukhtar. To him, now the returning officers were bound to re-examine and re-count all the rejected votes presented by the presiding officer.
Supporting his case, Shujaat had also alleged Muhktar of defaulting on Rs 635,162 property tax, and maintained that he should be disqualified for contesting elections. He had also requested the court to declare him as returned
candidate.
