Islamabad: (Monday, January 30, 2012) Pakistan’s former ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani is expected to fly out of Pakistan by tomorrow morning after getting permission from the Supreme Court.
According to the well placed sources, Haqqani is expected to travel to Doha tomorrow early morning, where from he will take flight to the US. In America, the former ambassador of Pakistan to the US is expected to meet some top
US officials.
It was revealed by the sources that prior to deciding to leave Pakistan, Haqqani had a detailed meeting with the Deputy Chief of the US Mission in Islamabad Jonathan Pratt and the Prime Minister’s House – his current place of residence,
where besides other, memo case was also discussed between the two.
Earlier, Asma Jehangir, the council to Husain Haqqani, had requested the apex court to ease the traveling restrictions on his client who had family abroad. Submitting to the request, the court allowed him to travel abroad.
Upon the guarantee extended by Jehangir that her client will appear before the honourable court at the notice of four days, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar said, “He is allowed to proceed out of country.”
The court, however, maintained that in order to travel abroad, Haqqani will have to inform the registrar office in advance.
Sharing his thoughts over court’s permission for him to travel abroad, Haqqani said, “I am glad that the Supreme Court has restored my right to travel, which had been rescinded without any charges being filed against me, I will
join my family in the US after discussion with the leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party.”
