Movie recommendation of the week – Hot Fuzz
Monday, January 30th, 2012 5:35:06 by Musa AfridiEver felt like watching a brilliant movie that is filled with action, witty jokes and does not take itself seriously but managing to look serious at the same time?
A joke here, a nice set piece there, plenty of mystery and suspense, a few hundred gunshots and a car chase may seem like the standard elements one would find in almost every movie these days, yet leave it to Hot Fuzz to add a bit of zest to it and give
everyone something they probably never experienced before.
The last bit of that statement may have been a slight exaggeration, because chances are that if one has seen the cult classic, Shaun of the Dead, then they probably know what they are in for: another hilariously entertaining adventure that does not take
itself too serious, but does.
Instead of going into details of the film’s plot it would be best to let the reader know this and only this, because there are so many interesting twists and turns in this story that it pretty much tells itself, so a brief introduction would more than suffice.
Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is so good at bring a police officer that he puts the entire station in London to shame, so they decide to transfer him to a peaceful village. There he meets PC Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) who is not so good at being a police
officer and their grand adventure begins.
The film delivers in terms of plot, with plenty of character development and interaction between the many villagers and the two officers. Each conversation leads to the thickening of the plot, often with a shrewd bit of humour thrown in.
In essence the film is a parody of the action movie genre with plenty of references made throughout the film and more japes than one would care to count. At the same time there is an intelligence to the humour.
This film is sure to make the viewer lose themselves in the mysterious plot, laugh their socks off at the subtle ‘in your face’ humour and thoroughly enjoy the action sequences, especially the one at the end.
