Luke and his family
Monday, January 30th, 2012 11:06:50 by Kashif KhanLuke Donald is going to bid to become the first man to win both the European and the PGA Tour money lists in the same season, and admits that he must try to reach a balance between his family commitments and golf.
Rory McIlroy is second to Donald on the European Tour, and is well behind in lead, but is still in a strong position to cement his advantage in the Race to Dubai standings with a good performance in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. While talking about his attempt at an unprecedented accolade Donald said,
“It would mean a lot to lead both money lists,”. “No one else has done it, being a member of both tours – and that’s why I will keep an eye on what everyone is doing. You always try to accomplish things nobody has ever done. I think it will be pretty special”
Even though he missed out on the $11.4 million payday at the Tour Championship, Donald’s finished third and was ahead £ 40000 clear of Webb Simpson in the PGA Tour money list.
The situation is a tricky one though; Donald’s wife is due to give birth in six weeks time, Donald, who is almost certain of the coveted World No. 1 rank in the Official World Golf Rankings, (OWGR), is planning to take a break from the schedule to spend some time with his wife and family.
Although he is planning to appear on the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic in Florida in late October, where he plans to take his daughter Elle to Disneyland, he still mentioned that it rests mostly on his wife and how she feels about it.
“A lot of my rest is dictated by my wife being due,” he said. “I have to discuss it with her as well. But our daughter would love a week at Disney”
Luke Donald became world No. 1 according to OWGR in May 2011 and is virtually guaranteed to maintain his rank to the end of the year.
