Paul McGinley captain of the Britain & Ireland team hailed the performance of his rookies at the Vivendi Seve Trophy which finished on Sunday with the sixth consecutive win in the seven year history of the event.

The European team skippered by Jean van de Velde made a hard comeback on the final day at the St-Nom-La-Breteche when they pulled up from an overnight deficit of 11 ½ to 6 ½ and then levelled at 11 ½ each on the back of five straight wins.

But Great Britain &Ireland did well to keep the nerves intact and bettered their already impressive record with the sixth straight win. McGinley was very delighted to see that his decision to mix the rookies with the veterans worked beautifully and came good when the pressure was on. He had special praise for the Vivendi Trophy newcomer Scott Jamieson whose win over Pablo Larrazabal was integral to the momentum swing in favour of his team. While talking about the young talent McGinley said,

“Scott Jamieson’s match was huge, that kind of turned the tide in our favour. I actually focused mostly on Scott’s game, I walked every shot with him from the 14th. I knew how pivotal that match was going to be and he was brilliant.”

“I wanted Scott to keep playing pretty conservatively coming in there because it was difficult conditions, and he did exactly as I said. I’m so proud of the way he’s come through this week, and he’s just one guy. David Horsey as well, a huge half point there.”

Ian Poulter also played a vital role on the final day when he made a crucial birdie on the 18th hole to seal a one up victory over young Matteo Manassero. Mark Foster carried his team with over the finish line by beating Raphael Jacquelin and ending the scoreline at 14 ½ point threshold.

McGinley was also very happy the way Mark Foster held his game, and gave special mention on how he played a pivotal part in the game to tip the team over for a well deserved win.
