Pakistan’s spinner Abdur Rehman has said that his side’s series win against England was not a surprise for him. He added that the team worked extremely hard, which is why they managed to overcome the opposition convincingly.
The Men in Green overcame England in the first Test of the three match series by 10 wickets and then followed it by a 72 run triumph in the second encounter.
Although Rehman was not surprised over the Pakistan’s solid show against the Poms, he admitted that the margin of victory in both games was a shock for him, as he expected a tough fight from the opposition.
The main reason behind Pakistan’s success has been the performace of spinners Saeed Ajmal and Rehman. The former guided his side to victory in the first Test whereas the latter did the same in the next match.
Both spinners have been doing an excellent job over the past one and a half year, which has helped Misbah-ul-Haq and his men to beat some quality oppositions like England and Sri Lanka.
Many believe that the Green Shirts will not be able to carry on with the same bowling combination in the future and anyone of the spinners will have to be left out of the playing 11.
However, the 31-year-old spinner stated that he and his spin bowling partner does not think like that. He added, "We have nothing like that he will get wicket and I will be left out, we support each other so much that there comes nothing in our heart,
we always think that anyone gets wickets it should be helpful for the team."
Rehman’s recent performances have put him in the ICC’s top 10 Test bowlers list whereas Ajmal was already there. The left-arm bowler was delighted at this and stated, "It’s good, a very good feeling and now I am in top ten and it is after a long time
that two Pakistani spinners have come in the rankings, so I am happy that I am among those bowlers who are world’s best."
The final Test of the series will be played in Dubai between February 3-7, 2012.
