New Delhi: (Tuesday, January 31, 2012) Ajmal Kasab, the only survivors of the Mumbai Attacks has submitted his formal statement before the Indian Supreme Court in which he has maintained that he was pressurized to confess his involvement
in the attacks, which should now be dismissed.
Kasab also maintained that the law enforcement authorities did not allow him to seek legal counsel when they recorded his confession statement.
Earlier, the apex court adjourned the appeal today into death sentence handed down to the only survivors of the gunmen who launched Mumbai attacks some four years ago.
Reportedly, Kasab was one of the ten gunmen who laid siege to Mumbai in attacks that lasted for three days and claimed over 160 lives. Two years ago, Kasab had filed an appeal for his sentence to be overturned after he was convicted
in May 2010.
24-year old Kasab has been charged with cases like waging war against India, murder and indulging into terror acts.
Today, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing as the appeal was not available; moreover, no immediate date has been set for the next hearing.
Earlier, Kasab’s death sentence was maintained by a state high court in Mumbai. If the apex court sustains the high court’s decision, Kasab will only be left with a chance to appeal for clemency from the president.
