Can Indian bounce back in T20 and ODI’s?
Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 12:58:47 by Taha HabibHaving being embarrassed badly during the test series by the three-time world champions, Australia, Indian national team are now preparing for the shorter version of the game, T20 and ODI’s. The Men in Blue will hope to see a turn-around in their fortunes
when they face a slightly different unit than what they came across in the test matches.
India were crushed 4-0 in the test series under Michael Clarke’s captaincy, but will have a team to contend with which will be playing under Matthew Wade’s captaincy. Indians are tipped to perform a lot better in the shorter format and Mahinder Singh Dhoni’s
men will get their two-match T20 campaign under way on Wednesday, February 1, at Sydney.
The Indians will definitely be looking forward to this format after their debacle in the test series where they were accompanied by such senior names as VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin, however, will accompany the Indian team during
the ODI’s but the little master won’t be included in the T20 side which will have a few new faces from the test squad.
It is advisable for the Men in Blue to put the horrors of test series behind them and start fresh in the T20’s and ODI’s. However, it might not be easy for the world champions to forget their humiliating defat in the test series going into the shorter format.
One encouraging factor for the Indians will be the return of their youngsters. The likes of Suresh Raina, and Ajinkya Rahane will come back into the squad which will apparently strengthen the strong looking middle order which already has Virat Kohli, Rohit
Sharma and Dhoni himself. Another encouraging point for the Indians is the out-of-form Srilankan national side. The Tamil Tigers have been in woeful form off late which means that the tri-series could be decided between Indian and Australia.
Therefore, Indians can still get their campaign back on track by at least qualifying for the tri-nations final, or preferably winning the competition down under as they also did the last time when these two teams entered the final.
