MS Dhoni willing to quit captaincy
Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 1:35:55 by Rana Nasir GhafoorIndian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has said that he is ready to hand over captaincy to someone better than him.
Dhoni is currently facing huge criticism following India’s terrible performance in the Test series against Australia.
Team India was wiped out 4-0 by the Aussies, and it was their second consecutive whitewash defeat in an overseas competition. Dhoni and men suffered a Test loss by the same margin on their trip to England last year.
The Men in Blue are under enormous pressure at the moment, and the pundits are asking for overhaul changes in the side.
Taking the responsibility of India’s recent poor performance, Dhoni stated that if there is a better replacement, he is willing to give up India’s captaincy.
“It’s an added responsibility and not a position that belongs to anyone. Am trying to do well, it’s not a position I want to hold or stick on to. If there is a better replacement, it’s an open job, he can come in and the place should be given to him," Dhoni
said.
Meanwhile, the captain cool explained that he has been trying his level best to fish the side out of the troubled waters.
Dhoni had earlier hinted that he might have quit Test cricket by the end of 2013, in order to make himself available for the next World Cup, scheduled to take place in Australia and New Zealand in 2015.
When asked about his plans for the longest version of the game, the wicket-keeper batsman shared, "It’s two years to 2013. I don’t know whether I would still be alive! There would be IPL, Champions League, back-to-back series. It’s not a calendar you can
decide in advance or if there is a lot of rest.”
"I would have to decide by 2013 but it’s two years away. I can’t say in 2014 that I am not playing next World Cup and give a player of 25-odd matches (a chance to prove)," added the 30-year-old who has played 67 Tests for India.
Dhoni, however, was determined not to give up, adding he would keep giving his one hundred percent for the team’s success.
