Based on the 1994 novel of the same name by Janet Evanovich, One for the Money is a 2012 comedy flick. It is distributed by Lionsgate and was released on January 27th, 2012. The film grossed $11.5 million at the box office from its 3-day opening
weekend.
One for the money is directed by Julie Anne Robinson and it stars an ensemble cast of Katherine Heigl, Jason O’Mara, Daniel Sunjata, John Leguizamo and Sherri Shepherd. The score is given by Deborah Lurie and the movie is produced by Sidney Kimmel, Wendy
Finerman, Tom Rossenberg and Gary Lucchesi.
The movie focuses on Stephanie Plum (starred by Heigl) who is unemployed and newly-divorced. She finally found a job at her cousin’s bail-bond business where her first assignment puts her on the trail of a wanted local cop from her romantic past.
One for the Money debuted at number three with $11.5 million at the box office on its opening weekend. It landed behind The Grey which stands at number one with $20 million and Underworld Awakening which stands at number two with $12.4 million.
The movie received universal negative and poor reviews with the review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes, reporting only 3 percent positive reviews from 33 critics.
IMDB gave it a rating of 4.9 out of 10 from its 796 users while another review aggregator site, Metacritic, stated a score of 20 out of 100 based on reviews from 16 critics.
Roger Moore of the Winston-Salem Journal gave the film a score of one out of four and commented, “Heigl traded down to TV and "Last Song" sob sister Julie Anne Robinson for a director, and then let her pack Stephanie Plum’s world with the blandest supporting
cast ever. That makes for the most colourless movie this side of Oscar favourite ‘The Artist.’”
New York Times’ film critic, A.O. Scott also gave a poor rating of one out of five and stated, “There is action of a sort — a car blows up, shots are fired — and what might pass for witty, sexy banter to someone who once overheard a conversation about
an episode of Moonlighting.”
Overall, the $40 million budgeted flick is a way to kill time with your friends and family. However, the movie is not worth to watch again on big screens.
