Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close – An average film

Based on the 2005 novel of the same name, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is a 2011 American drama which was released on December 25^th, 2011 and a wide release on January 20^th, 2012. It is directed by Stephen Daldry and produced
by Scott Rudin.

Starring Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and Thomas Horn, the principal photography started in March, 2011 in New York City. Filming went on Hiatus in June and the next month, scenes were shot on the streets of the Lower East Side and Chinatown. It is also the
first feature film to use Arri’s ArriRaw format to store data for post-production.

The film centres on a nine-year-old amateur inventor, Francophile, and pacifist who search New York City for a lock that matches a mysterious key left behind by his father. The boy’s father died in the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2011.

The film received mixed to negative reviews from critics worldwide. IMDB gave it a score of 6.4 out of 10 based on its 2,720 users while Metacritic gave it a rating of 46 out of 100 based on reviews from 40 critics.

Review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes, report 46 percent of 127 critics gave it a positive review, with an average rating of 5.7 out of 10. The site’s general consensus states, “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close has a story worth telling, but it deserves better
than the treacly and pretentious treatment director Stephen Daldry gives it.”

Lisa Kennedy gave it an amazing score of 3.5 out of four and praised the movie by stating, “If imagining a city where people open their doors (or don’t) to a boy with a key and a ton of questions is sentimental … then it is vitally, beautifully so.”

However, Washington Post’s Ann Hornaday had a completely different opinion. She gave it a rating of one out of four and declared, “Stephen Daldry’s extremely labored and incredibly crass adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel.”

All in all, the movie is good way to pass time with your family and friends and you should have a go.
