The cinema industry in Pakistan has never been looked after in a proper way as a result to which most of the cinemas in the country remains empty throughout the year. However, the 31-year-old Pakistani singer and actor, Ali Zafar, is expecting a lot of improvement, especially with the new rules which have been introduced by the government.
As per the new rules and regulation, now every mall in the country will have a theatre in it and Ali thinks it is a great step taken by the government.
“Since Indian films have started coming to Pakistan, people are going to cinemas more often. Now more cinema halls are being constructed. The government has made the rule that every mall should have a theatre and screens and it is certainly getting better,” he said.
Pakistani films normally used to show a heroine dancing around a hero somewhere in the mountains but the trend has changed now, as Pakistan has started making pretty good movies like ‘Bol’ and Khuda Kay Liya’, which were even liked by the audiences across the border.
“Pakistani cinema is going through a rough patch, but slowly it is getting better, with new age directors getting into filmmaking and producing films like ‘Bol’ and ‘Khuda Kay Liye’,” Ali told IANS in an interview.
Ali reckons the new generation in Pakistan is quite changed and they want to move along with the world. The singer gave Maya Khan’s example, who was a news reporter. Maya used to run a morning show on ‘Samaa TV’ (news channel) but she got fired for invading people’s privacy. Maya started going into the parks to raid couples and people protested against her for which she had to lose her job.
“People have rejected those bogus old ways of telling stories as they want something new. Pakistan is witnessing a new wave, thanks to social media,” Ali said.
Ali Zafar is currently in India to participate in his much-anticipated upcoming movie ‘London, Paris, New York’, which will be released on March 2, 2012.
Meanwhile, in Pakistan Bilal Lashari’s upcoming film ‘Waar’ has become one of the most eagerly awaited films of this year. The film will be released into the cinemas on February 15, 2012.
