Deteriorated situation of Balochistan

Apparently Balochistan is standing on the edge of no-return, as we failed to adhere to Article 9 of the Constitution in the province, which created a state of crisis. The said article refers to the right of every citizen to life and property.

Additionally, the situation is further deteriorating with every passing day. Although some Baloch leader may think the Supreme Court should has taken the notice long ago, it is welcoming point that the apex court has put up the case at priority.

Importantly, a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry started hearing of a petition moved by a former president of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, seeking detailed reports on missing persons from the spy agencies including Military Intelligence (MI) and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).

The real situation is yet to be clarified. The people having a deep look at the human right violations claimed that such agencies were behind the atrocities in the province where women mourn over the kidnapping of their brothers, husbands and fathers.

In return of their mourning, they received mutilated and defaced corpses of their dear ones at street corners in across the region.

If we take a look at our history, it looks difficult to control these intelligence agencies, which is a real issue at the time. Apparently they are able to doing so from behind the shelter of their secret worlds without answering anyone about their actions.

It is a serious question whether the apex court can amend this truth and evoked some kind of admittance as to who kidnap these persons and where these persons really are. Some 500 persons according to the petition are missing in the province. Considering these numbers, it is clear that things simply will not go on in this trend.

Both the government of Balochistan and IB (Intelligence Bureau) has already submitted their reports, with the larger bench of the apex court by now rebuffing the one submitted by the latter. It is yet to be witnessed that the military agencies will follow the practice or not.

The apex court also summoned Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq to the next hearing, seeking replies of the federal and provincial governments over the issue.

If we want our country remain united, we surely need to establish a tradition of accountability for all departments including intelligence and law enforcement agencies. Let us see if the apex court can open the facts as the significant case proceeds.
