Tale of two finest Australian cricketers: Part II
Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 12:47:03 by Taha HabibMichael Hussey
Having previously discussed about Ricky Ponting in the first part of this article, the second part contains Michael Hussey and his skills of which cricket Australia have been continuously served for the past eight years.
Another champion Australian cricketer who came on the scene quite late, but did not take long to make a name for himself at the international arena is Michael Hussey. The left handed striker is certainly the finest batsman in the modern day game and still
has a long way to go in his Aussie career.
Even though, Hussey could not perform up to his level best in the recently concluded test series against India, but the formidable left hander is a huge worry for any opposition. Hussey managed 293 runs at an average of 58.60 against the Men in Blue, and
was the third highest run scorer from the Australian side after Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting.
Also known as ‘Mr. Cricket’, Hussey has also proved his critics wrong by performing well according to the expectations. However, the Western Australia born cricketer, just like Ponting, will have another opportunity to prove his mettle in the upcoming ODI
series against India. A classy series will signify Hussey’s importance to the Australian side, and will enable the lefty to prolong his career in the Aussie colours. However, a poor series will add-up pressure on the 36-year-old.
Hussey made his Australian test debut in 2005 against the West indies, and so far has made 5,489 runs from 70 tests until now. He earned his ODI debut in 2004 against the Indians, and has 4,862 runs under his belt until now from 166 ODI’s.
Both Hussey and Ponting are undoubtedly at the back end of their illustrious careers, and one good series will help them extend their career for the Kangaroos.
