Gilani will respect Supreme Court’s verdict

The Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani has recently made a statement in which he has said that a confrontation with the judiciary of the country is not an option that he would be considering to take in any time in the future.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has previously decided that it would carry on with its decision to hold the Prime Minister of Pakistan in contempt of court for not obeying with the court orders. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has asked the Prime Minister of
the country to appear before the court so that it could hole him in contempt. However, the government of Pakistan ruled by the Pakistan People’s Party has stated its intention of contesting the decision of the apex court of the country to hold the Prime Minister
in contempt when he appears before the Supreme Court.

Yousuf Raza Gilani made the following comments to express his views on the matter: “I will respect the court’s decision. I will go there and I will present my stance before the court. I have attended the court when summoned in the past and I will attend
again now. Everybody should follow the constitution.”

The Supreme Court of Pakistan had repeatedly given order to the government of the country to write to the Swiss probe so that investigation against the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari could be restarted. The President of Pakistan as well as Bhutto
was named in a money laundering case for being involved in corruption. However, the investigation that was in progress against Asif Ali Zardari was stopped when the National Reconciliation Ordinance was drafted and signed during the time Gen. (retd) Pervez
Musharraf was President of the country.

However, the apex court of the country had deemed the NRO as illegal which in effect called for the re starting of the investigation against Asif Ali Zardari. However, the government of Pakistan had insisted that the President of Pakistan enjoyed complete
immunity both inside as well as outside the country.

Whether the Prime Minister of Pakistan will be held in contempt of court is yet to be seen.
