Mehmood Khan earns coaching stint in Vietnam
Friday, February 3rd, 2012 4:49:44 by Shahrukh SohailNational Bank of Pakistan star and former Pakistan International Mehmood has signed with unnamed Vietnamese club in a coaching capacity.
The defender was completing his coaching badges from the AFC region and showed promise after the continental body sent him to Spain to observe training sessions in La Liga.
However despite his potential, the PFF overlooked him without apparent reason in their AID-27 coaching list. The decision has come back to haunt the Federation, as Khan has been able to secure a professional coaching stint in Vietnam.
Speaking to reporters, the ex Green-Shirts International revealed that he had been given a chance to become the trainer of Vietnamese club and he was going to grab the opportunity with both hands.
“I have been signed as a coach by a club in Vietnam and I am going to join it.”
He also said that he was extremely delighted with the offer but had to prove his worth to his new side with a 3-month initial probation period.
“I am extremely happy that I have got a call from the club. My employers have sent to me visa and ticket also. My contract is for nine months and I will take it as a challenge. At home, I had no proper opportunity of coaching and the task abroad will further
cement my resolve to go a long way in the field of coaching.”
While the name of the team has not be disclosed due to network problems, NBP coach Nasir Ismail was also full of praise for his protégé and wished him well in his future endeavors.
“I promoted Mehmood and motivated him to opt for coaching. The assignment in Vietnam is a challenge for him and if he succeeds in his mission it will be better for both National Bank and Pakistan,” said the tactician.
Mehmood Khan is a rare example of Pakistanis pursuing the game abroad and his efforts are likely to be appreciated by the whole country.
