Despite the fact that Australia will be up against the World Cup champions and runners-up, Michael Clarke has rated his side as favourite in the upcoming triangular one-day series.
Starting from February 5, the series includes India, Sri Lanka and the hosts, Australia. Although, India and Sri Lanka’s recent performances are not special by any means, the two sides have been doing a decent job in the limited-over version of the sport.
The Men in Blue recently imposed a 5-0 ODI whitewash on England in the home series. On the other hands, the Lankan were able to give South Africa some tough time in the one-dayers, although they lost the series at the end.
The experts are anticipating an exciting event, but Clarke is adamant that the Kangaroos are good enough to win the battle comprehensively.
"We’re the No.1 one-day team in the world so I’d like to think that we’re favourites. But in saying that we have to be at our best. We have to play at our best to beat both these teams. They were both in the final of our most recent World Cup. We know the
conditions very well in Australia and I’m confident if we play our best cricket we can win this series," said Clarke.
The Aussies are having a good time at the moment. They managed to clinch a clean-sweep triumph in the Test series, heaping a lot of misery on Mahendra Singh Dhoni and company. As captain, Clarke is still unbeaten in a series and therefore, Australia have
decent chances in the clash.
Talking about the team selection for the ODIs, the 30-year-old added, "The team has been picked for the first three games. I think the selectors will talk throughout these first three games before they select the team for the next group of matches. Hadds
just needs to get back scoring runs and keeping well, continue to play the way he plays. There’s been a lot of talk about it. I don’t think Brad’s that bothered about it. He knows what he has to do – put numbers on the board and I’m sure he’ll get another
opportunity.”
