The National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence expressed concerns over deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan and murder of granddaughter of Nawab Akbar Bugti in Karachi, summoning intelligence agencies to brief the panel on Feb 29.

Unknown assailants gunned down family wife of MPA Bakhtiar Domki namely Zamu Domki, her daughter Jana Domki in the wee hours of Tuesday along with their driver in Karachi.

The NA body met with Azra Fazal Pechuho in the chair to look into law and order situation in Balochistan and the performance and other issues of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

MNA Abdul Ghani Talpur drew the MPs’ attention on killing of wife and daughter of Balochistan’s MPA Muhammad Bakhtiar Dhomki, requesting the committee to take up the issue.

He said that situation in Balochistan was out of control so the security agencies be summoned for briefing. Following his request, the committee decided to call security agencies to brief the panel in an in-camera session on February 29.

The panel also directed the PIA management not to delay any flight while waiting for a VIP, VVIP or any other important personality to make up mounting financial deficit.

“Why hundreds of other people should suffer if a VIP does not reach airport in time,” the committee observed. The PIA official informed the committee that IG Sindh had to go Sukkar but failed to reach in time, asking them to delay the flight to accommodate- him.

He added that DSP and SHO of Boat Basin raided his home, harassed the family members and had taken him with them to police station. “Police tortured me for not delaying the flight for its boss,” Rind blamed.

The committee expressed its displeasure over the incident, directing the Home Department Sindh to complete the inquiry into the incident within fifteen days and report be placed before the panel. Committee’s Chairperson Azra Fazal said strict action must be taken against both the police officers and they should be reverted to junior posts.

IG Sindh Mushtaq Shad told the MPs that he apologised from Irshad Rind and his family, which they have accepted. He further informed that DSP and SHO involved in the incident have been suspended.
